It's National Insurance Awareness Day
Did you know there are nearly 2,000 national “holidays” to celebrate in the U.S. each year? If you love it, there’s probably a day to celebrate it. While June 28 is National Parchment and International Caps Lock Day (yes, really), here at Securian Financial, we’re partial to celebrating National Insurance Awareness Day.
To honor this very important occasion, here are a few insights to help grow your business and drive insurance conversations with your customers and members.
Food for thought – life insurance and single mothers
According to LIMRA, the number of single mother households with minor children has increased 40 percent since 1980, but only 41 percent of single mothers own life insurance.1 As you can imagine, single mothers are busy, but what’s really getting in their way of purchasing life insurance? While 46 percent feel life insurance is too expensive, 28 percent don’t know how much or what type to get and 24 percent just haven’t gotten around to it.1
Why we should all care about disability insurance
According to the CDC, up to one in four Americans has a disability.2 But the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that short-term disability insurance is only available to 40 percent of civilian workers and long-term disability is only available to 35 percent.3 And, not everyone opts to purchase coverage even though it might be readily available to them. In fact, only 14 percent of Americans had disability insurance in 2021.4 Plus, while not specifically due to a disability, 24 percent of U.S. citizens were considering bankruptcy to solve a medical debt issue.5
Clearly, there’s an insurance need and you can help
Insurance is one of those things that many don’t think about until they need it. Still, life’s unpredictable and all too often the unthinkable happens. You can help your customers and members prepare for those unexpected moments with conversations and education.
Insurance can seem overwhelming. Some don’t understand all their options, how the products work, or even how and where to purchase them. They don’t see how insurance could help prevent a decline in their credit rating, offer financial relief to help them get back on their feet or help provide for their family.
Having more conversations and providing insurance education for your customers and members not only helps them, but also shows them you care about them as people, which can lead to a better experience and increased loyalty.
It’s a win-win.
Happy National Insurance Awareness Day!
