Renee leads the team of legal and compliance professionals who support our business lines, corporate departments and insurance subsidiaries in the United States and Canada. As general counsel, she is responsible for regulatory issues, government relations, corporate transactions, compliance, and litigation. Renee is a member of our executive leadership team and provides legal advice and counsel to our senior management regarding corporate governance and strategic business development initiatives.

Experience

Prior to joining Securian Financial in 2021, Renee was executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary for American Equity Investment Life Holding Company, a retirement income provider. Prior to this, she was at Aegon USA Investment Management in various legal roles, including general counsel. Renee has over 25 years of legal experience in insurance, securities, sales distribution, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory issues, and board governance.

Community

Renee serves on the board of directors for the Association of Life Insurance Council, is a member of the American College of Investment Counsel and is a past member of the Annuities Committee for the American Council of Life Insurers. She also currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Des Moines Art Center and is a past board member for Women Lead Change, Iowa’s premier leadership organization for women.
