Securian Financial’s hiring process: what you can expect

From your first interaction with us and throughout the hiring process, our goal is to make you feel welcome at Securian Financial. We value being authentic in all we do, and we encourage you to be yourself as you interact with us, too.

As you progress through our hiring process, we’ll be as transparent as possible so you know the next steps and have opportunities to ask questions along the way.

Applying

Once you find an open position that matches your skills and experience, please complete and submit an online application. You’ll be asked to:

  • Create a username and password
  • Upload a resume 
  • Verify that your contact information, experience and education are accurate
  • Upload a cover letter (optional)

Application tips

Follow these simple tips to help your online application process go smoothly:

  • Provide as much detail as possible about your experience
  • Use common language (avoid industry jargon or terms specific to previous employers)
  • Be thorough and proofread before submitting your application

Interviewing

We’ll review your application, and if we feel you’re a good match, one of our recruiters will schedule a phone or video interview with you. Think of this initial conversation as a chance for us to gauge your qualifications and interest in the position, and for you to ask questions about the opportunity and our company. If you and our recruiter feel there’s mutual interest, we’ll invite you to an in-person interview at our headquarters in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota.

In-person interview

When you visit our campus, you’ll meet with a variety of people, depending on the position. You’ll also have a chance to see our office and get a feel for our culture. Ask questions along the way, and we’ll provide answers and insight to give you a comprehensive impression of Securian Financial.

College students

If you’re applying for one of our internship programs, the interview process may begin with an interview on your college campus. If we’d like you to join our program, we’ll invite you to our offices for an in-person interview.

New employee orientation

All new Securian Financial employees start on one of 20 common start dates with cohorts of about 15 other new employees. Together, you’ll go through our enterprise onboarding program.

This comprehensive journey connects new employees with each other, the core of who we are, who our customers are and how we help them secure their futures. You’ll receive foundational information and learn how your role connects to the big picture at Securian Financial.

The program has five guiding principles:

  • Meaningful connections
  • Cultural integration
  • Engaging experiences
  • Leadership exposure
  • Thoughtful pacing

You’ll continue your onboarding journey through a variety of experiences with your cohort during your first 90 days at Securian Financial.
