Securian Financial received a perfect score of 100 on the 2023 Equality Index from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index (CEI), the nation’s leading benchmarking survey and report that measures corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality.
Securian Financial first participated in the survey in 2020, earning a score of 85. By 2022, it increased to 90, and this year reached 100. The company has diligently focused on its diversity, equity and inclusion efforts to make these gains.
“I’m incredibly proud of the team for the work put in to get us to this perfect score. It is reflective of the progress we’ve made,” noted Tariq Malik, 2nd vice president and chief diversity officer. “And while we take a moment to celebrate, we also know that we still have work to do. The survey process shows us that we are doing well overall, but also provides areas of focus where we can continue to improve.”
The CEI rates companies on detailed criteria falling under these central pillars:
- Workplace protections
- Inclusive benefits for LGBTQ+ workers and their families
- Internal training and inclusive culture
- Corporate social responsibility
“We have many notable achievements,” said Sheryl Vaz, DEI consultant. “Some of these include having and creating awareness around transgender inclusive and domestic partner benefits, an LGBTQ+ benefits guide, gender transition guidelines and internal training and awareness on the topics of intersectionality and gender identity through our employee resource groups and Learning and Development partners.”
